Role reversal

I always drive.  Judy always tells me where to go.

This time we’ve turned it around.  I get to tell her where to go and that’s great fun.  It’s only 300 miles from Houston to home; a six hour drive.  There are a couple wildlife refuges south of Houston we’ve never been to and they’re “almost” on the route home.  All we need to do is swing over by the coast on our way.

Brazoria NWR.  It’s only an hour and a half southeast.  Coastal marsh.  Lots of birds.  Got an Aplomado Falcon; a surprise this far north.

A driving loop tour.  It’s only 7 miles.  That shouldn’t take too long…

Okay.  That took a couple hours to get through.  On to San Bernard NWR.  About 20 miles south of Brazoria.  Another coastal marsh.  This is nice too.

Another driving loop.  This one is 9 miles.  That’s not very far either.

Done with both the refuges.  How far are we from home?  Oops.  Nine hours of driving today and we’re still 250 miles away.  It’s getting late.  We stopped at Port Lavaca to spend the night.  We’ll have to focus a little more on the target tomorrow.
