He’s getting better now,
but he got this thing called Old Dog Syndrome. Idiopathic Vestibular
Disease. It’s like a really severe case of vertigo. No known
cause. He was fine one minute and suddenly couldn’t get his back end to
stand up. He kept falling to the right and was incapacitated. We
thought he was having a seizure, so it was an immediate ride to the vet.
He didn’t look like he would be making the drive home with us.
The vet recognized it
immediately and reassured us. This comes on suddenly, like a seizure, but
is not cognitive at all. It’s more like a middle ear thing. Henry
was likely to make a full recovery. As bad as he looked right then, he would
be significantly better in three days. That was Thursday. Here we
are on Sunday, three days later, and he is up and around again. Eating
and drinking normally. Jumping up and down off the furniture. He is
still listing a little to the right but continues to get better every day.
He’s a good boy.
