…by
“no mercy” I mean a trip to the National Butterfly Center.
With
a view of the Rio Grande.
Then
to Anzalduas Park
Also
with a view of the Rio Grande, and a sister park directly across the river on
the Mexican side.
Every
time you see a dignitary standing at the river reporting on the national crisis
at the border, they’re standing right here!
This is ground zero of the border crisis! Border Patrol and sheriffs on our side, the
sound of children and families laughing and playing together from the other
side.
And,
receiving significantly less coverage, the national crisis of alligators.
We
toured the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse that for almost a hundred years pumped water
out of the Rio Grande to irrigate the agriculture of the Valley. It did that, even after the hurricane of 1933
that re-routed the Rio Grande a half-mile south and they had to dig a ditch to
get the water from the river back to the pumphouse.
And
finally, a stop at Kahn’s Mongolian Grill for dinner.
There
was a thumping at Joker tonight, but it’s not really important to report who won…
