When there is no rain, the ocotillo drop all their leaves, to prevent water loss, and end up dry sticks. They look dead
After a rain, new leaves sprout.
They can go through this cycle several times a year.
We saw very happy ocotillo this last trip.
And when they get really excited.
They flower.
