We've moved on

A little.

2016 Summer Trip Map

We stayed longer than we expected at Kartchner Caverns State Park.  It was just so nice there it was hard to leave.  The fact that the campground has water and electric only helped us decide it was time to move on.  Seven days on the tanks is a lot for us.  It’s kind of nice though, to use resources frugally.  We had 100 gallons of water to start and still had water left over when we left.  That’s about 40 gallons each for the week.  Just for perspective, a bath takes 40 gallons of water.  A lawn sprinkler uses 140 gallons per hour.

We’ve been working our way through the mountain ranges, sky islands, of Southern Arizona.  It’s not like being in Colorado where the Rockies dominate.  There are little mountain ranges splattered all over Southeastern Arizona.

We started on the west side of the Santa Rita Mountains when we were at Madera Canyon.  We’ve been camped next to the Whetstones for the last week, driving down to the Huachucas for Ramsey Canyon and Coronado National Memorial.  Our stay at Willcox will give us access to Cochise Stonghold in the Dragoons, and Chiricauhua National Monument in the northwestern Chiricauhuas.  We’ll make one more stop to visit Cave Creek Canyon, Portal, and Paradise in the eastern Chiricauhuas.
